Description |
Bible circa 1829 with accompanying note and lock of hair sealed in Mylar. Pocket size Bible with leather binding. Publisher: Towar and Hogan Philadelphia, PA. Inside a pencil note on ruled paper to Maggie (Sam Houston's daughter) dated April 26, 1882. A lock of reddish hair bound with thread was pressed inside. Very fragile with binding totally separated. The Bible was said to have belonged to Margaret Lea Houston and passed down through the family. It was given to THS by a Lea family descendant, Mrs. Lorna Hume Terrell Thomas. |
