Description |
Plaque from a wood fragment taken from the original hull of "Old Ironsides" the frigate Constitution. Keel laid 1794. It cruised the West Indies 1803, defeated the 50-gun British frigate Guerriere in the war of 1812, captured the Java, Picton Cyane, and Levant. A: Wood fragment 4 3/4" W x 4 1/4" x 5/16". 2 1/2" diameter medallion "Old Ironsides" and 3 1/8" x 1" rectangular medallion "material taken from original hull of US Frigate Constitution keel laid 1794" Nail missing at bottom of circular medallion. B: Wood fragment 2 1/2" x 2" x 7/8" One side burned. "Dr Pritchett" written on one side. |
