Photograph of General Sam Houston's Home at Independence, Texas, from 1854 to 1861. Black and white. 6 inches x 8 inches. Pasted on back is brown paper with typed info, "This is a copy of a photograph made of General Sam Houston's Home at Independence, Texas from 1854, was his home when he was deposed there, but his family owned the house until 1874, his wife Margaret Lea Houston died in 1867 of yellow fever, and is buried at Independence near the Baptist Church in which the family worshipped. This house was built by Thomas Barron in 1837 the year after Texas gained her Independence, and was torn down by James Dallas in 1897 on June 28th. I had the photograph taken for the Houston Chapter Daughter's of the Republic the day before it was torn down. Mrs. Max Urwitz was President. Mr. Dallas gave me two logs."
