2013.1.3A Title page removed from a Holy Bible. All edges of the page show signs of deterioration, though top and bottom edges are more pronounced. Back of page written in pencil: "_____ Papa to his little Mollie H__ 1860 [next line] Written Jan'y 19th / 64." Yellow and brown color due to age, 5 inches long and 3 ¼ inches wide, belonged to Mary William Houston. 2013.1.3B One page (cover page) removed from a Holy Bible, belonged to Sam Houston, and later given to daughter, Mary Willie. 5 1/16 inch long and 3 3/8 inch wide. All edges of the page show signs of deterioration, though top and bottom edges are more pronounced. Large water stains around edges and interior of page. Inscription includes Sam Houston's signature. Front of page written in pencil, "Sam Houston, 4 March 1859 [next line] Washington City D.C." Below that inscription also written in pencil in different handwriting, "This Bible was given to me by my darling and saintly" bottom of page deteriorating and what was left of the inscription is illegible. Continuing along the bottom left of the page written in pencil: "mother Sept 27th 1863." Color of object is yellow and brown due to age. 5 inches long and 3 ¼ inches wide. Condition is poor. Belonged to Mary Willam Houston. |
